What is a PM&R doctor (physiatrist)?

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also called physiatry, is a medical specialty focused on restoring function after injury, illness or surgery. A physiatrist is a medical doctor who treats the muscles, bones, joints and nerves without surgery.

Instead of treating one symptom, a PM&R doctor looks at the whole picture: where the pain comes from, how it limits your daily life and what will get you back to work and normal activity. Treatment may combine medication, targeted injections, nerve testing and a rehabilitation program.

No-Fault, Workers’ Comp and insurance

We work with the insurance types that matter most after an injury in New York:

No-Fault (car accidents)

In New York, No-Fault (PIP) insurance covers medical care after a car accident, no matter who caused it.

Workers’ Compensation

Injured at work? Your treatment can be covered through your employer’s Workers’ Comp insurance.

Get checked even if you feel fine. Some accident injuries, like whiplash or disc injuries, show symptoms days later. An early medical visit protects both your health and your claim.
